70-Year-Old Granny Among Suspects in Court for Sh70 Million

An elderly woman, aged 70 years was arraigned in a Nakuru court alongside her daughter-in-law, and charged in connection to robbery.

The two are among eight people -including a traffic police officer- who have so far been charged with the said robbery which saw goods estimated to be worth Sh70 million get stolen.

The offence was allegedly committed on July 15, near Salgaa.

Armed robbers are said to have attacked one Titus Koech and stolen a trailer valued at Sh9 million, loaded with 1,994 computer accessories worth 15.7million, 1,438 high-end Samsung phones worth Sh35.2 million, assorted garments worth 9.6 million and other personal items.

The ladies in court today were also charged with being in possession of some of the stolen loot which was found in their house in Gatundu Sub-County.

The lawyer representing the two, John Ochang, decried the arrest of the two women, citing that the main suspect who is a son the elderly woman, has not been arrested.

He argued that while the stolen goods were found in the suspects' house, they had nothing to do with the robbery.

The two suspects are being remanded at Central Police Station in Nakuru, while the hunt for the main suspect continues.
