Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has revealed how he led a delegation of politicians who held President Uhuru Kenyatta's hand in his ascent to power back in 2013.

The outspoken senator recounts how they took him to register to vote in Icaweri, Gatundu, after convincing him to continue in his bid for the presidency after he threatened to back down on the claims of influence from the 'devil'.

"Whatever Duale said is the truth, we know the president. We were there, we took him there, we pushed him there. I led a group of five people, we even took him to register to vote," Linturi stated in an interview on a local TV channel on Monday, November 1.

"We sat the whole day, organizing, Kabogo and I, and took him to register to vote, in Icaweri," he affirmed.

He further recounted how a section of Jubilee Coalition leaders, from the National Alliance (TNA) party in 2012, convinced Uhuru not to step down for his counterpart Musalia Mudavadi, after he had decided to back out of the race after being coerced by powerful forces whom he referred to as the devil.

"I was the one, together with William Kabogo, Bahari Ali, Naomi Shaban and Walter Nyambati who stopped him from handing over to Mudavadi," the lawmaker revealed.

This was after the Interim Independent Electoral Commission(IIEC) became the Independent Electroral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) in 2013, and introduced the use of Biometric Voter Registration System that required voters to register afresh.

Linturi also revealed that the delegation accompanied the president to DP Ruto's house to discuss the formation of the Jubilee Coalition and formulation of the coalition's manifesto.

This comes after UDA-allied politicians launched a scathing attack on the President after he asked Kenyans to vote for those who will uphold his legacy, as he would not want to leave the country in the hands of people with questionable integrity.

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale stated that such remarks were demeaning to the voters who had elected both Kenyatta and Ruto on the Jubilee coalition ticket.

“You are telling us the eight million Jubilee supporters in your own leading are full of conmen and crooks and thieves. That is an insult to the Jubilee family and your supporters,” stated Duale.

Mumias MP, Benjamin Washiali, a close ally of Ruto decried attempts by the president to block his deputy from winning the presidency, in the guise of branding him as a thief.
