City Hall has denounced claims that a top official jumped through the window of his office to evade arrest by police officers on November 1.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, November 2, City Hall Head of Communications, Jacob Elkana, refuted the claims published by a media outlet, terming them as fake news.

He also stated that the publication was done to taint the name of the high-ranking official.

"That is inaccurate and such can only be likened to malicious acts,"  he stated.

His sentiments were seconded by another official, who stated that he had not heard about the incident. According to the publication, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided City Hall's executive wing in search of the official.

With a warrant in hand, they wanted to apprehend the official who had been on their radar for engaging in corruption.

The official, who was tipped off about the impromptu guests, allegedly escaped through his office window. He also switched off his phone to avoid being traced.

The Officer Commanding Central Police station, Adamson Bungei, who had been quoted in the article, laughed upon enquiry into the matter. He stated that he could not confirm the incident.

"I cannot discuss the matter, especially not on the phone because I was not present when it happened," he stated.

In the article, Bungei had been quoted stating that the officers were on the officials trail and would fish him out of his hideout and bring him to book.

City Hall officials have been under scrutiny by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). In January, the anti-graft body probed officials over suspicious payments to 25 law firms.

In 2020, officials were grilled by EACC and the DCI for unethical conduct and corrupt appointment of officials in the county government.
