"We wish to inform the public that this job recruitment notice is fake and did not originate from Brookside Dairy. Kindly disregard and share this widely," reads an excerpt of the notice.

Kenyans ought to be vigilant on social media to avoid being duped into believing and sharing fake news.

The law imposes heavy penalties on individuals spreading fake news. If found guilty, the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018 indicates that one risks a maximum jail term of ten years or pay Ksh5 million fine or both.

Brookside's clarification came just hours after the Ministry of Interior debunked a fake Gazette notice that has been making rounds on the internet.

The fake gazette notice alleged that Thursday was a public holiday to mark Diwali Celebrations.

The Ministry of Interior has since denied declaring it a public holiday.

"The Government has not declared a public holiday on Thursday, November 4, 2021. The purported gazette notice declaring a holiday is fake!" reads a statement by the Ministry.
