The Chuka University Vice Chancellor, Prof Erastus Njoka on Friday, November 5, called out the Tharaka Nithi Governor, Muthomi Njuki, for interfering with the running of the institution of higher learning.
While addressing the press, the VC revealed that the governor has been secretly meeting some student leaders, which to him amounts to incitement.
Prof Njoka has now warned the Governor to keep off the university matters, further accusing him of interfering with the peace of the students and the institution at large.
“The Governor of Tharaka Nithi County has been meeting some of my student leaders in different places, organizing how they can create chaos here and go to court.
“He has, in fact, been meeting the Secretary General of the University. I would like to ask him to keep off matters of the University because he has his own mandate, which is not in this University,” Professor Njoka remarked.
The VC proceeded to state that this is not the first time the Governor is trying to cause chaos in the institution, and if he keeps doing the same, they will have him prosecuted.
“He has tried to interfere many times, and I find such a time right to tell him to stop involving himself in matters of the University."
The VC further stated that should the politician be found in the institution again, there will be no negotiation as he will be dealt with by the authorities.
“I ask the police to pick him up if he is found in the University or else where meeting the students in a manner likely to incite them."
Njoka urged Governor to treat the students as he would do to his children, rather that cause unnecessary unrest in the institution.
“He should be a father to those students, and show them how to live peacefully, and not to cause unrest.
“We don’t go to his county offices to incite his workers and in the same way, we don’t want external interference with our students,” he stated.
Notably, the VC added that the university will handle all the politicians in the same manner.
