A photo doing rounds on social media depicted that the new signpost of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga was defaced by being repainted yellow.
The Nairobi County renamed Mbagathi Way after the former Premier on Thursday, November 4.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Nairobi County Communication Director, Jacob Elkana explained that the photo noting that it is doctored and a failed attempt for Raila's rivals to defame him.
"It's a doctored information aimed at tainting the image of the County and whoever is doing so, must fear God because we believe in the rule of law," he stated.
The photo had elicited debate from Kenyans online as ODM supporters were seemingly disgruntled over the alleged act.
"Hooligans repaint the Raila Odinga way signage in Nairobi. The signage was painted yellow, a colour associated with DP Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party."
"That is treason. Nobody should interfere with the sign," read some of the comments online.
Further, another photo of a snake coiling round the signpost had also surfaced on social media. According to IT specialist Dennis Kiptoo, the photo was doctored.
"Every photo there is a metadata that shows the information about the photo, its aperture, description, camera which took the image, location, exposure, focal length, ISO of the image, date and time. For that particular image, you have not found any data in regards to the image."
"On the same image there is the shadow effect as you can see there is a part of the snake which is blurry and cut. A keen look at the patterns of the snake shows the lower image of the snake is different from the upper one," he stated.
The naming of the road came weeks after the Nairobi County Assembly passed a motion to rename the road in Raila's honour owing to his advocacy for multi-party democracy in Kenya.
"He minds about Kenyans and as a County, it is our obligation to make it real and honour such leaders," Elkana stated.
