Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Ukur Yattani, on Thursday, November 11, revealed the regions that remit highest taxes.

Speaking during a meeting between the Mount Kenya Foundation and the Upya Movement, Yattani called for the communities from Mount Kenya and North Eastern to unite and work together, owing to their unique contribution to the country's economy.

The Treasury boss revealed that communities predominantly from the two regions paid the most taxes in the country.

"From where I sit in the National Treasury, the most pleasant person and region that I look for are the people who pay the highest taxes. The returns we get from these two regions are by no means comparable to any other region," Yattani stated.

He explained that for many years, the communities from the two regions have dominated the economy through aggressive pursuit of trade, investment and creation of wealth. Yattani stated that in every vibrant market, you would not lack a member from either Mount Kenya or Northern Kenya.

Yattani, who was officially appointed spokesperson of the Upya Movement, mooted that the two communities needed to take advantage of their business ties and form ahead of the August 9, 2022 election.

The CS further called upon the Mount Kenya region to forge ties with their North Eastern counterparts.

"We belong to his (President Uhuru Kenyatta) corner. We are his people. We trust him, and whatever direction he gives us, we will follow," the CS stated.

Yattani took the opportunity to address the discordant noises in the central region, asking them to come back to the President's agenda. Nyeri Member of Parliament, Ngunjiri Wambugu, who was in attendance, assured that the region was firmly behind the President.

Wambugu revealed that Mount Kenya had plans to clean up the Jubilee Party through the National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 30.

"I know there has been this feeling that that region belongs to somebody else. It has never gone o anybody else, it  still belongs to Uhuru Kenyatta. We assure you of that," the MP stated.

The Jubilee NDC has been linked with kicking out its deputy party leader, Deputy President William Ruto, and other members accused of defying the top leadership.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, lawyers affirmed that the DPs ouster from the party will not be  significant given that his office is not pegged to a political party.

They further revealed that the DP has the option of filing an appeal at the Political Parties Tribunal, which will most likely rule in his favour following a similar ruling in a case involving Jubilee Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nyeri County.
