Young Couple Found Dead, 90 Days After Wedding

A young couple that did their wedding in August 2021 was found dead in their home in Mnagei location, West Pokot County.

The couple, Musa Ahmed, 25 and Sharon Cherotich, 20, were discovered by neighbours and family members.

Kapenguria OCS Lucas Wamocha confirmed the incident saying that family members had to force entry into the house.

"They knocked on the door, but there was no response. Hence, had to break the door to get access to their house where they found the bodies,” he stated.

Preliminary investigations indicated the couple arrived home on Wednesday while drunk.

Police suspected that the man killed his wife before hanging himself with a rope.

Ahmed is sais to have approached his mother and intimated that he wanted to end his life.

“He told his mother to take care of his two children, but the mother didn't take it serious,” Wamocha stated.

Their bodies were moved to the  Kapenguria county referral hospital.

A postmortem will be conducted to give more insights on what happened before the couple died.

The Ministry of Health released a report on World Mental Health Day 2019, elucidating that the most common suicide risk factors were; genetic, biochemical, psychological, social and cultural, sometimes, combined with experiences of trauma and loss.

The ministry further revealed that depression was the most common psychiatric condition prevalent in people who die by suicide.
