Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga supporters clashed with those of his rival, Deputy President William Ruto, during a rally in Nyeri Town on Sunday, November 14.

The rally was organised by a host of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politicians led by Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

A clip seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed supporters of the two leaders shouting their respective leaders names with those of UDA stating 'Ruto Tosha'. Those supporting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader settled for 'Baba' (Raila's political nickname).

At some point, Murkomen's voice was muzzled in the screams by the different supporters including a distant minority shouting in support for Jubilee.

"Thank you. You have tried but you should pull up your socks. Thank you Nyeri people," stated Murkomen in between cheers and jeers.

Murkomen was accompanied to Central Kenya by his Kericho counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot, Kimilili MP Didmus Baraza, and his South Mugirango counterpart Sylvanus Osoro.

The entourage was then forced to drive off the town while the pro-Raila crowd was heard shouting behind their entourage to exit the area.

Ruto was, however, not present at the event since he was launching Kangari United Dairy Co-operative Society in Murang'a where he was also scheduled to hold a rally.

Over the past week, the DP and his entourage have been caught up in controversial public engagements both within and without Nairobi County.

On Wednesday, November 10, the Deputy President's motorcade was stoned during a tour in Kisumu's Kondele area attracting backlash from leaders. Police, however, claimed that the DP and his security team had been warned of the impending attack beforehand but ignored.

On a separate occasion, a day letter, Karen residents penned a letter to his office and shared it with that of the Inspector General of Police claiming that he had become a security threat to them.

They argued that the huge number of people who visit his Karen home had increased insecurity, traffic and mugging in the area.

Later that day, the DP's office was also accused of not serving food to the newly assigned bodyguards from the Administration Police unit.

Ruto's Communication Secretary David Mugonyi, however, dismissed the reports stating that the officers were getting food as required.

He turned the heat to the Ministry of Interior, saying that it had not been paying the officers their allowances as required by law.
