The Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi on Sunday, November 14, defended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries from attacks by politicians.

Speaking at St. Gabriel Catholic Church Mutumo in Gatundu South, Muturi stated that people dealing with policies and development programs in the government should be given the space they need to execute their mandate.

He stated that their role is to enlighten the public on matters of the government, and being attacked by politicians make them lack the space and freedom to effectively do their job.

While urging the church to support his presidential bid, Muturi asked those launching attacks on interior CS Fred Matiangi, Information Communication Technology (ICT) CS Joe Mucheru and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, to give them freedom to speak out.

He proceeded to ask those allied to the deputy President William Ruto to stop pushing for their removal from office, stating that they are accountable to the people, and should be open to them on the issues they are dealing with.

“Give them the freedom to speak about their issues. They have been given an opportunity to serve the Kenyans by the president and are therefore accountable to the people. Let us allow them to explain what it is they are doing as a government,” Muturi stated.

He mentioned that instead of dragging the country into barbarity with their heated exchanges and insults, they should ensure they push for peace in the country.

While referring to the 2007/2008 post-election turmoil, the presidential hopeful stated that it is normal to have different opinions but despite that, everyone’s opinion deserves to be respected.

He urged all politicians to have a reasonable way of disagreeing, and let everyone sell their agenda to the public.

“Let us have differences of opinion but learn to respect each other. If we have to disagree, let us do it respectively. Those of us seeking political positions, let us sell our agenda to the people, that is what we have done and what we intend to do,” Muturi remarked

His statements come at a time when Ruto’s allies are pushing for the removal of CSs Matiangi, Mucheru, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and Kibicho from office, accusing them of campaigning for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

A number of Ruto allies have threatened to reject the 2022 election results, since the CSs are in charge of critical positions in government, and that they have already rigged the 2022 general election.

“I want to request President Kenyatta that in the interest of the peace and integrity of elections in this country, they must be sacked or given lighter duties."

"There is no way we can have the Minister of Interior, Defence and Information and Communications Technology support one candidate as we approach the General Election. I want to say without the fear of contradiction that the rigging of the 2022 general election has already began,” Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei had earlier stated.
