A passenger caused a gun scare at a bus terminus in Kinangop, in Nyandarua County, after he entered a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) with a fake gun.
The passenger had allegedly bought a toy gun from a hawker which he wanted to gift his siblings. He, however, decided to put the gun in his waist, causing panic.
Some of the passengers and touts who saw the toy mistook it for a lethal weapon.
“He kept adjusting the toy gun after realising that several people at the busy terminus had spotted it," a witness disclosed.
Other witnesses thought that the man was an undercover detective.
Upon noticing the attention he was attracting, the man, who was dressed in religious attire, boarded a Flyover-bound vehicle.
However, officers from Naivasha Police Station managed to catch up with him, was arrested and taken in for interrogation.
“He confessed he had purchased the toy gun for his siblings because they had been pestering him that they wanted a toy gun for their usual pastime games,” the officer said.
The officers, who could not hold their laughter, noted that it was a moment of naivety for the man.
He had already spent the night at Naivasha Police Station before he was set free on Tuesday, November 16.
“We clearly informed him that he was courting danger by carrying a toy gun in his waistband, a dangerous undertaking that could have landed him in jail,” the police stated.
