Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has asked Kenyans to brace for inconveniences at airports, Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and other places.

Speaking from Kamiti Maximum Prison where he was receiving three convicted terrorists that had escaped prison on Sunday night, November 14, Matiang'i stated that the State would be enhancing security checks.

He received three convicts just hours after they were caught trying to escape to neighbouring Somalia.

The trio, Musharraf Abdalla, Joseph Juma and Mohammed Abdi, were found in Mwingi East, Kitui County.

Speaking to the press, Matiang'i expressed relief and vowed that measures had been put in place to ensure that such an incident did not take place in future.

"It has been an awakening that there are certain lapses that we need to deal with. We have spent the last 3 days working on how to deal with certain challenges," Matiang'i stated.

"I pray to God that we never get here as a Country because the level of anxiety the Country got into, was unnecessary because of the lapses that were here," he added.

The CS further expressed gratitude to the National Intelligence Service (NIS), National Police Service (NPS) and the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), whom he stated had worked extremely hard to capture the convicts.

Sources who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that the trio was having a meal at a local joint when residents noticed them and alerted the police.

According to the residents, the three, who looked exhausted and thirsty, bought a lot of milk, bottled water, bread and biscuits from local shops and paid cash.

Following news of their arrest, the Kenya Airforce airlifted officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) from Wilson Airport in a bid to secure the escapees and facilitate their return to prison.
