Comedian Eric Omondi on Thursday, November 18, narrated his three and a half hours ordeal in the hands of police officers.

Speaking about the incident for the first time, Omondi disclosed that he panicked for the first time when Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station, Johnson Lemuna, ordered for his apprehension and he was forcefully thrown into the police mini-truck.

Omondi and a section of artists were holding demonstrations outside Parliament buildings when the police lobbed teargas to disperse them.

OCS Lemuna confirmed at the time that the comedian had been apprehended and detained at Central Police Station.

"There were like seven men. They were trying to push me into the car and I knew it would be over if I got into the car. I was pushed and fell down but I don't have a scratch on my body, I thank God," narrated Omondi.

On being apprehended, the comedian states that he found 12 Kenyans who were also behind custody in the cell he was being held.

"Others who had also been apprehended thought I had gone there to record a statement but when I told them I had suffered the same fate as them, they started laughing at me. The OCS and officers were good to me but they warned me against engaging in any altercations with them," Omondi stated.

The comedian disclosed that it was his first time in life to be in police custody.

He, however, noted he would not back down from demonstrations and vowed to hold a similar protest next week on Tuesday.

The comedian was leading a protest as part of a campaign to push the government to consider the interest of Kenyan artists who claim to have been abandoned for years.

Among the grievances that Omondi and his entourage are pushing for is 75 per cent airplay in Kenyan media for local content.
