Former KTN presenter, Kendi Ashitiva, runs an award-winning initiative that is shaping and impacting millions of lives across the country.

Kendi resigned from KTN in 2009, where she used to host a popular gospel show known as Tukuza. She made the surprising announcement about her departure on live TV, on her own volition, to pursue her life’s purpose.

However, after years of keeping a low profile and running her own ventures, she has now received international recognition. Through her social media page on Friday, November 19, Kendi announced that she has been crowned winner of the I Change Nations Regional Voice of Change Award.

It is a global award that recognises people and organisations that are making a difference in their communities.

"I received this prestigious award for my work in mental health alongside three other phenomenal women doing amazing things in our society. Words cannot describe how blessed I felt," she stated.

"Being a therapist is tough, I love it but it's very tough, it's nice to be encouraged. I am human too and I am forever grateful," she added in appreciation of the award.

Kendi is the co-founder of an initiative called Niskize Counseling and Call Center that offers restorative psychology, positive psychology, diagnostic assessment and psychometric testing.

Further, she is also the founder of Girl Talk Kenya. The platform allows young women to have candid conversations with older women.

Girl Talk Kenya holds several forums in churches and in schools, with the aim of encouraging young women to pursue mentors and to live holistic lives.

Kendi holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Daystar University. In addition, she also pursued a Doctorate in Clinical psychology at United States International University-Africa.

After launching the Niskize Counseling and Call Center, she offered to counsel Kenyans over the phone and even meet some face to face.

She has been appearing on several TV stations and other media channels to discuss matters of mental health, parenting, marriage, and family.

Her biggest motivation is to impact the lives of people who are undergoing various life struggles, leading to increased cases of mental health.
