Melida Auma, mother of the late Sharon Otieno has claimed her life is now in danger ever since Deputy President William Ruto visited her.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, November 23, Melinda claimed that she had been attacked by some individuals demanding money.

She stated that the people who have been attacking her were demanding money, forcing her to run for safety.

"Some [people] have even attacked me. I had to be evacuated to safety after people demanded that I give them money, which I didn’t have. I fear for my security now. Even as I thank the Deputy President for his visit, I urge him to come back to Homa Bay to empower delegates too," She stated.

She added, "People think UDA has money, and, therefore, have a lot of expectations. They also think the Deputy President [William Ruto] gave me money when he recently visited Homa Bay."

These claims come just days after she clarified to Kenyans.co.ke that she had not received a car and money from the second in command according to a letter that had since gone viral.

"The statement is fake and just based on propaganda. There will be a lot of that during this election period. I have never received any vehicle or cent from the DP. I am just an aspirant like any other," Melinda stated.

The letter which had made rounds on different social media insinuated that Ruto had gifted her a car and assured her of direct nomination ahead of 2022 elections.

Melinda is to contest the Homa Bay Woman Representative seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, in next year's polls.

On her decision to vie, Melinda stated that Sharon's death had nothing to do with her quest to take part in the county's leadership. She even argued that she were alive, she would be her chief campaigner.

"My political ambitions are not in any way related to the case. My interest in politics came long before Sharon’s death. It is only that I had not declared it. My joining politics is a dream come true and I’ve no regrets. I only pray that my daughter will finally get justice and that her killers will be brought to book," she stated.

She made it clear that her ambition to venture into politics is to change her way of life and impact society.

"First, it is due to public demand. People from my ward first pushed me to vie as their MCA, but we later agreed that I go for the Woman Representative seat. I also want to change my life and that of my family. I want to grow economically and socially and live a better life."

Melinda first received the news of Sharon's demise on September 4, 2018. Before that she used to live a private life with everything running as normal.

But now she under the public radar even as she seeks to venture into the world of politics.
