Deputy President William Ruto was for the second day running forced to cancel a rally in Kenya's Nyanza region after the gathering turned chaotic.

Ruto had to call off political engagements in Migori County on Thursday, November 11, after a section of rowdy youth turned it into a shouting match.

The youth, who were opposed to the address by Migori Governor Okoth Obado, engaged in a violent altercation leading to the postponement of the meeting.

The youth were chanting anti-Obado slogans as they expressed disappointment in his performance since he took over the county's leadership in 2013.

Videos circulating on social media showed the crowd refusing to be addressed by Obado and some chanted Sharon Otieno's name.

Ruto's team called off the meeting that was to be held at posta grounds and no communication was made on whether the DP will hold another rally to meet with young people from the area.

Chaos rocked DP Ruto's tour in Kisumu after a group of rowdy youth disrupted his meeting in the low-income area of Kondele on the outskirts of the city.

Police were forced to lob teargas to disperse the youth who had blocked the Deputy President's convoy at the Kondele Roundabout.

Ruto was forced to cut short his address and alter his plans after the youth started hurling stones at his convoy.

The rowdy youth staged protests at the Kondele blocking Ruto from holding any political engagements in the area, a Raila Odinga's stronghold.

DP Ruto had earlier on received a heroic welcome when he made a stopover in Kisumu City's Central Business District on his way to Kondele.

Residents came out in large numbers to welcome the DP in his campaign tour of the lakeside city. Despite the calm in the earlier stopovers, heavy security was deployed in the area to mitigate any unprecedented outcomes.

After the chaotic scenes in Kondele, the National Police Service Spokesperson Bruno Shioso stated that Ruto ignored their warning and disregarded intelligence reports which indicated that the crowd in Kondele would be hostile.

According to Shioso, police had gathered that there was tension between local political groups over funds that were released to the groups.

The DP's security detail was informed of the situation and advised to cancel the Kondele visit but they ignored the directive.
