The National Police Service(NPS) on Wednesday, November 24, for the first time in history barred all family members and friends from attending police graduation.

In the directive issued by NPS, the police stated that this measure had been taken because of increased terror threats in the country, with the latest one being the three Kamiti escapees.

The order comes days before the National Police Service College Embakasi ‘A’ Campus (Administration Police) and ‘B’ Campus (General Service Unit), hold their graduation on Monday, November 29.

The directive from the police headquarters stated that there will be no invitation cards sent out to family, friends or any other civilians.

“No visitors will be allowed in the college on the eve of passing out. This order takes effect from Wednesday when the Inspector General of Police will be the Chief Guest reviewing the parade and will remain in force,” an excerpt from the directive read.

The notice further stated that all the attendees of the graduation, staff members included, will be expected to be in full police uniform.

This, the police service states, is one of the measures they have put in place to try to manage the rate of terror threats in the country.

“Staff and other officials who would wish to attend must wear their respective full working dress.

“This order is among measures put in place to enhance security in the light of prevailing threats of attacks to both National Police College Embakasi ‘A’ and ‘B’ campuses,” read the directive.

All the commanders who have been mandated to oversee the implementation of this directive have been warned that failure to adhere to this will see disciplinary action taken against them.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i had earlier stated that the country is at a very delicate place, and great caution has to be taken so as to manage the situation.

We are not out of the woods yet; I need to caution the public that we are in an unusual space because of what is happening around us. Please let us be very careful and watchful. This is the time to maintain a lot of care in what we do,” the CS noted.
