The County Government of Nakuru, through Governor Lee Kinyanjui, has come to the aid of a Kenyan teenager who was selected to take part in the trials with the English Premier League in 2020.

Godson Chegema, a resident of Nakuru, could not travel to London due to financial constraints.

The Nakuru Administration has since paid his air ticket, accommodation and taken care of any other expenses throughout the trials period.

Chegema was presented with the goodies by Nakuru County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports, Sylvia Onyango, who emphasized on the county's commitment in nurturing sports among the youth.

The football enthusiast expressed gratitude to the Administration for enabling him fulfil his dream and vowed to work hard during the trials.

His dream is to become a role model to the youth and encourage them to be better individuals.

The 19-year-old sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations at Kivumbini Secondary School in 2019.

He has been participating in the Deliverance Football Club, a team that is sponsored by Deliverance church. 

Nakuru youth coach, Mark Lumisi, praised Chagema and was optimist that he would emerge as the best player if nurtured well.

The County Government of Nakuru is focused on infrastructural projects such as the construction of stadiums, purchase of sports equipment and tournaments.

"Chagema's success is an indication that sports is a key tool that can be used to keep the youth from crime and drug abuse. My administration has been supporting sporting activities among the youth," Kinyanjui stated.
