A Facebook page impersonating Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has been flagged for posting fake, alarming and misleading content.

On November 30, 2021, a post on the page claimed that the MP spoke against Deputy President William Ruto’s candidacy.

“William Samoei Ruto will never lead this country,” the post read.

On August 21, another post targeting the DP was shared stating that “William Samoei Ruto will never be president.”

The same post and caption were shared on December 31 2020.

Several posts escalating the onslaught on the DP were shared on February 26, 2021, and February 22, 2021.

The earlier post claimed that “The deputy president is launching kiosks in Nandi county.”

The second read “William Samoei Ruto is a hungry thief and he will milk Kenya dry if elected”.

The page dubbed Hon Alfred Keter, Nandi Hills MP that was created on 17 August 2020, uses a similar profile picture to the MP’s authentic page. This is identity theft.

The page’s content also shows a similar posting trend seen by the same posts, captions and target - DP Ruto.

On November 30, the MP through his official page Hon Alfred Keter, MP Nandi Hills Constituency, flagged one of the posts and cautioned his followers from subscribing to its content.

“Good Morning my great friends and followers. Kindly be warned not to be misled by the posts and comments made by this fake account bearing my names and details. Have a good day,” he wrote.

Keter joined Ruto’s camp after years of political animosity between the two. On November 24, 2021, he was among the MPs who welcomed the DP at the Kapsabet Showground in an event where Ruto facilitated the construction of ACK Plaza, Kapsabet Diocese.

The page impersonating the MP is thus misleading, alarming and should be reported for fake news.
