Billionaire businesswoman who funded Jubilee Party and is wanted for Ksh2.2 billion tax evasion is hiding at the Weston Hotel along Lang'ata Road.

Authorities, who have been tracking down Mary Wambui, have disclosed that she is holed up at Weston Hotel in an attempt to evade arrest.

It is believed that Wambui and her accomplice Purity Njoki Mungai are still hiding in the hotel and escaped from their designated rooms shortly before authorities arrived to arrest them.

The authorities in charge further disclosed that several belongings of the two including their car keys were recovered in a hotel room they are believed to have been staying in.

“Upon searching the hotel premises, government officers and the police found personal belongings of the two including cash, bank cards and car keys; a clear indication that the two were residing at the hotel," read the statement in part.

Police have cordoned off the hotel as search for the two, who are directors of Purma Holdings Company, continues.

A warrant of arrest was issued against the two women over contempt of court in Ksh2.2 billion tax evasion case on Monday, December 6.

Mungai alongside her daughter Purity Njoki Mungai failed to honour court summons to take plea, pushing Chief Magistrate Felix Mutinda Kombo to issue the warrant to have them appear in court.

The warrant was issued against them after the court was notified of the duo's failure to show up on Friday, December 3 to inform them of the charges against them, opting to send their accountant.

According to their lawyer, Syvanus Osoro, Mungai could not make it to the court as she had been admitted in hospital, but the court reported that no records of hospitalization were provided by the party.

The ally of Deputy President William Ruto had acquired a military tender to provide uniforms for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and was a big financier of the Jubilee campaign in the 2017 elections.
