Five people were killed in a grisly accident at Sapache area on the Isiolo - Marsabit Highway on Monday evening, December 13.
Samburu East Deputy Sub County police boss, Juma Ombata, confirmed the incident stating that three other people had sustained serious injuries.
Ombata disclosed that the five died on the spot while the three sustained injuries after they were thrown out of the vehicles.
"We managed to save three. They are in critical condition and have been taken to the Archers Post Health Centre. We are on a rescue mission and moving survivors to Achers hospital," Ombata told the Nation.
The accident involved two Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and a Toyota Landcruiser LC200.
Authorities confirmed that the unfortunate incident took place after the Prado suffered a tyre burst and collided with the LC200 head-on.
Bodies of the three were taken to the Wamba Sub-County hospital mortuary. At the same time, the vehicles were towed to Wamba Police Station.
The accident came just days after several people died after three vehicles, two 14-seater public service vans and a lorry, crashed at Matsangoni area along the Mombasa - Malindi Highway on Saturday night.
Jimmy Kahindi, Kilifi County Assembly Speaker, wished a quick recovery to the survivors and sent condolences to the families of the deceased.
Accidents have been on the rise ahead of the festive season with latest National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) figures indicating that 3,212 died in road accidents between January and September 2021, an increase from 2,560 who died similar period last year.
