Deputy President William Ruto’s Digital Strategist, Dennis Itumbi, was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after developing pneumonia complications.

In a statement, Team Ruto National Coordinator, Peter Kamau, revealed that Itumbi had developed breathing complications while in treatment and doctors sought to transfer him to the Intensive Care Unit.

Itumbi's associate also revealed that X-ray results showed he had signs of pneumonia.

Kamau also revealed that Itumbi had earlier undergone a successful surgery but tests done by doctors after the operation showed that he had pneumonia.

The Team Ruto National Coordinator further claimed that they suspect Itumbi developed pneumonia after he was abducted and dumped in the cold in the wee hours of the night on Thursday, December 23.

"At 3:00am this morning our brother Dennis Itumbi was taken to ICU with difficulties breathing. Medical tests reveal that he has traces of pneumonia.

"You remember the evil abductors after torturing him and clobbering him with a hammer on his arms and limbs stripped him and left him in the cold of the night. He must have been exposed then.

"I would also like to update you that the surgery done on his fractured bones was successful. The medical team is doing its best to deal with the current complications. Even as you celebrate Christmas keep him in your prayers," Kamau stated.

On Thursday, December 23, the family stated that the digital strategist, who had been missing after the abduction took place in Thindigua along Kiambu Road, was found tortured and was being treated at a local hospital.

His brother David Itumbi, went ahead to state that Itumbi claimed that he was abducted by police officers who beat him to a pulp.

"My brother has been badly beaten. We thank God that he is alive. On his own account, he was arrested by police and beaten and tortured. Please pray for his recovery. Thank you for your many prayers and support," stated the brother.

In addition to his statement, David shared images of Itumbi while undergoing treatment at a local hospital. However, he did not disclose the hospital where the digital strategist had been admitted to.

Consequently, allies of Deputy President William Ruto also issued statements to confirm that Itumbi had been found after visiting him in the hospital.

They alleged that the abductions were orchestrated by the state because of politics and a close relationship with the DP who is seeking to ascend to power when the country goes to the polls on August 9, 2022.
