Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Purity Wangui Ngirici, has changed tune on her support for Deputy President William Ruto in the August 9, 2022, presidential vote.

Speaking to Kirinyaga residents on Sunday, December 26, Ngirici told residents that they can support anyone for the presidency and not necessarily Ruto if they don't think he is capable of the job.

The Woman Rep further explained that Kirinyaga residents can choose either Ruto, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, or Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi.

However, she urged Kirinyaga residents to spare the gubernatorial vote for her adding that she has no plans to give up on the seat.

Ngirici claimed that she was aware of plans to rig her out of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations and warned her competitors that she will be on the gubernatorial ballot in 2022.

"In August 2022, in the Kirinyaga County gubernatorial race, Purity Wangui Ngirici will be on the ballot and my supporters should not worry about that. It should also serve as breaking news for those who wanted to rig me out in the nominations," Ngirici stated.

"Wangui Ngirici will be on the ballot paper in the gubernatorial race and I want to tell you the truth, I have no problem with anyone you want to choose from the MCA to the Presidency but the governor's vote comes to me," she added.

Ngirici acknowledged that she will not be telling Kirinyaga people who to vote for noting that she has no problem with residents who will choose Ruto or Raila.

"Those who want to vote for Ruto, I have no problem they should vote for him, those who prefer Raila, I have no problem go and vote for him and those who want Mudavad should do the same," the Woman Rep stated.

"Anyone who will vie I have no problem with them because it's the people who choose the leaders that they want and I don't want to feud with anyone because the Constitution allocates the funds that each position should have in its kitty," she continued.

Her sentiments come barely a day after has signalled her possible exit from UDA, alluding that she will be vying for the gubernatorial seat in 2022 despite Governor Anne Waiguru joining the UDA party.

Ngirici stated that she has no plans to leave the Kirinyaga seat as she urged the people to vote for her even if she contests as an independent candidate.

She further advised the Kirinyaga electorate to vet politicians seeking votes in the August 9, 2022 polls and not to focus on the political parties being used by the individuals.

The Woman Rep added that Kirinyaga residents have in the past elected leaders on independent tickets despite their political party alliances.
