United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Director of Communications, Wanjohi Githae, has announced that the party's political strategist, Dennis Itumbi, has been discharged from hospital.

The news was also confirmed by the strategist's brother, David Itumbi who noted that Dennis was on the path to recovery.

He added that Itumbi, who is Deputy President William Ruto's ally, had just been released from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was making tremendous improvement.

Itumbi's brother went on to share a video showing the former State House Digital Director taking small steps while being assisted by nurses. Further, Itumbi still had a cast on his right arm as his inability to walk on his own depicted a man still in pain.

"We thank God my brother Dennis Itumbi has made tremendous improvement. 24 hours after release from ICU he was walking on his two feet though he needed support. It's now path to recovery. God willing he should be out of hospital soonest," David stated.

While in hospital, Itumbi had warned officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to refrain from mysterious visits.

Through his lawyer, Kamotho Njenga, Itumbi claimed the officers received instructions from the highest office to have him sign unexplained documents.

"The said officers intimated that they had instructions from the highest office to have the medical process interrupted, in order to have our client sign some mysterious documents. Nothing can be more callous," the lawyer stated.

Itumbi, who had gone missing on December 23, 2021, was later found with grave injuries- signalling that he was tortured by his captors.

Photos of the strategist in hospital went viral with majority of Kenyans condemning the perpetrators of the incident, calling for justice.

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, while delivering his New Year's message from a hospital in Dubai, condemned Itumbi's alleged abduction and torture.

"Let us fight for the space of our freedom of expression and association. Let us not see people suffer like what my brother Itumbi is going through because of his principles and his stance. I condemn the people who tortured him and took him through that ordeal. Let us respect everybody," he stated.
