Harambee Stars Ace and Al Duhail SC forward, Michael Olunga, was presented with the 2021 Asian Champions League Golden Boot for emerging as the top scorer this past season.

Ahead of his club's tie with visitors Al Khor, players from both teams stood and clapped for the Kenyan national as he carried his golden trophy- resembling the guard of honour.

The footballer had scored nine times in last season's Champions League. Currently, he has scored 13 League goals this season- the top scorer at the moment.

The ace has been instrumental in the team's success- with the team sitting second at the Qatar Stars League table- five points behind Defending champions Al Sadd.

During the tie with Al Khor, Al Duhail were, however, held to a 1-1 draw with Olunga's colleague, Korean Nam Tae Hee, clinching the first goal. Al Khor's Ismael Elhaddadi equalized with a splendid finish in the 32nd minute.

The footballer is synonymous with his time at Gor Mahia, whereby his campaign kicked off with helping his team finish the season unbeaten and winning a record 15th League title. He also emerged as the top scorer, with 19 goals under his belt.

Olunga later moved to Swedish side Djurgårdens IF on a four-year contract, where he exceeded expectations and emerged fifth at the top scorers table.

Afterwards, he moved to Chinese club Guizhou Zhicheng, then jumped ship to La Liga side Girona on a one-year loan spell, where he scored a hattrick in his debut against Las Palmas.

In 2018, he joined Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol, scoring eight goals in a 13 -1 win against Kyoto Sanga. He finished the season with 27 goals-winning the J-League MVP award.

In January 2021, he moved to Al Duhail on a three seasons contract.

Currently, as teams are looking to secure top talent in the transfer window, speculations are rampant that Olunga may join former Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil at Fenerbahçe as the club is reported to have offered an average figure of Ksh500 million for the player.
