Slain businesswoman Evelyn Wanjiru, shared cryptic messages on Facebook before she was found dead by her boyfriend's aunt on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
According to a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the prime suspect in the murder is the deceased's boyfriend, who not only confessed to the murder but led detectives to the murder weapon.
Right before her death, Wanjiru shared expressive messages on social media and had also sent a text to her father regarding her boyfriend.
Her father stated that in the text, Wanjiru asked him to leave her boyfriend alone. This was amid an ongoing case where Wanjiru's boyfriend was accused of assaulting her.
Wanjiru on her social media wrote, "Be careful of those who don't clap when you win. Watch out for them who smile when you lose."
In another post, she wrote, "Don't force a vibe. If it's real it will flow."
The deceased and her boyfriend had not been on talking terms since October last year after he assaulted her and was arrested by detectives based at the Thindigua police post.
Wanjiru's father told detectives that the boyfriend's family had approached him severally for an out-of-court settlement over the assault but he had refused to give in to their requests.
Family members claimed the accused was a drug addict and he had sought treatment in various rehabilitation centers. He, however, was not able to stop abusing substances.
“We have tried everything to help him stop doing drugs to no avail. We even took him to a rehabilitation center last year hoping that he would change but he seemingly became worse,” his aunt stated.
The suspect's uncle told a local daily that the two had sworn to die together and efforts to separate them had proved futile.
The two jointly owned a barbershop and beauty parlor in Thindigua.
