Mungai had also undertaken a course in Oil and Gas at the Institute for Energy Law of the Center for America and International Law, Johannesburg.

In April 2019, Mungai represented Supreme Court Justice Jackton Ojwang' before a committee that had been set up to investigate his conduct.

Mungai successfully helped Ojwang' escape removal from the apex court by a tribunal appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In January 2020, he represented Kiambu County MCAs at the Senate in their successful impeachment against former Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

The renowned advocate has been mourned by several people including President Uhuru Kenyatta who described him as an accomplished lawyer whose service to the nation shall be dearly missed.

The Head of State prayed to God to grant his family, friends, and relatives divine fortitude at this difficult period of mourning.

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata stated that Mungai was a silent legal legend who had mastered the art of monetising the law.

Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) Secretary-General Stephen Mutoro revealed that he had never met such an all-rounded, down-to-earth man with a golden heart.

Mungai is survived by his daughter Wanjiku Njoroge and three brothers; Willy Mungai, Robert Mirangi and Joseph Kimani.
