200 Kenyans are set to receive scholarships following the signing of four bilateral agreements between Kenya and Hungary.
This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Monday, January 17, inked a deal with his Hungarian counterpart, János Áder, that would see the two countries partner in the education sector.
The pact will see the number of students getting government scholarships annually from the Hungarian government double from the initial 100.
“I am glad that your administration has offered to double Hungarian Government Scholarships given to Kenyan Students annually from the current 100 to 200 opportunities," the Head of State announced.
Uhuru and Ader led their respective delegations in bilateral agreements at State House, Nairobi, for cooperation in health, water, education and the diplomacy sector.
Hungary will inject a total of Ksh5.67 billion (USD50 million) in the four sectors.
The President also penned a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on diplomatic training and information exchange that will see the two countries collaborate on the training of diplomats.
Uhuru announced Kenya's plan to set up a diplomatic mission in Budapest “at the earliest opportunity”.
The agreement on health covers human resource capacity building, information sharing and prevention of diseases, including Covid-19, while that on water covers waste water management among other related aspects.
Speaking through a translator, the visiting Hungarian leader announced his country's commitment to continue supporting Kenya's development agenda and thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the warm reception.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the President for this cordial warm welcome and I wish you personally and all the people of Kenya a lot of success in your endeavours to overcome this ravaging pandemic,” President Ader stated.
