Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua, have been summoned to the court over late governor Wahome Gakuru's death.
On Thursday, January 20, the court summoned governor Kahiga, and MP Gachagua alongside two other county officials as witnesses in the matter.
Last year, Justice Kagendo also summoned Kahiga, County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio and county Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu to appear and shed light on grey areas in regard to Gakuru's death.
Governor Kahiga was summoned to shed light on a statement that he made moments after Gakuru's death.
The governor had claimed that he had warned the late Governor not to use the vehicle he was driving in on the day he died, due to its mechanical state.
In 2019, during the inquest, Gakuru's wife, Catherine Gakuru, was asked to tell the court if she had anything to do with the death of her husband.
Martha Waweru, a lawyer representing the late Gakuru's parents asked the widow whether she planned to kill Gakuru using people close to him, including his then driver.
While responding to the question asked, Gakuru refuted claims that she plotted to kill her husband as K24 reports.
“I am shocked. I have never had any interest in killing anyone, including Gakuru. My faith cannot even allow me to do that,” Ms Gakuru told the court.
Further, she added that she did not know that Gakuru was leaving for Nairobi that morning.
The lawyer argued that Ms Gakuru could have killed her husband because their marriage was not working.
The governor's widow disclosed that Gakuru sought a divorce in 2013 after the two lived separately from 2008.
Chief Government Pathologist, Johansen Oduor, who testified at the public inquest, stated that Gakuru died from excessive bleeding following the accident.
