There was a standstill in Kiambu town and along the busy Kiambu Road on the night of Sunday, January 30, as cameras captured an airplane at the back of a haulier truck snaking through the town to an unknown destination.

A video, and photos, seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed the medium-sized jet, which covered nearly the entire road, cause a snarl-up on the road while being transported in the early night hours.

There was excitement in the town as the caravan made its way and some individuals, especially young people, would be seen hanging on the plane's wings.

Road users, at some point, complained that the truck stopped in the middle of the journey while carrying the huge fuselage.

"Kiambu town loaded with jam, heavy truck carrying an aeroplane stopped on the mid of the journey," lamented Frank, who was caught in the melee.

It was still not clear where the fuselage was being transported to by the time of going to press.

The plane, which belonged to Jetlink and had the registration plate 5Y-JLA, was among the planes that were placed on auction at throw-away prices.

In November 2021, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced that it was set to auction 73 planes that had been deemed unairworthy and breached the safety measures of air operations.

At the time, Aircrafts such as Hirander, PA2 and PA23 went for as low as Ksh6,000 while others such as Tristar and Rolls Royce were sold for over Ksh1 million.

The fuselages are often transported by road during the auction period and in November 2018, two choppers caused debate on social media after they were spotted on Mombasa Road.

The two were being moved from Mombasa to Nairobi in an exercise that resulted into massive traffic.

In May 2020, another abandoned plane that was acquired through action was converted into a five-star nightclub dubbed Club 034 in Kitengela.
