Parties under the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) have signed a deal that gives all the four party leaders; Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (KANU), Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) and Martha Karua (Narc-Kenya) equal say and ownership of the coalition.
OKA was previously registered under Kalonzo's name at the Registrar of Political Parties, raising doubts about the power of the remaining trio.
In a meeting that was held at the SKM Command Center on Wednesday, February 2 the leaders resolved to have all their names registered as principals of the party, a move that will give them equal rights in the coalition
Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, noted that they had finalised the OKA coalition agreement and will deposit it with the Registrar of Political Parties on Monday, February 28.
He added that the OKA would be officially unveiled at a later date and the four leaders would traverse the country to sell their agenda.
"We will officially and publicly unveil the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) and demonstrate how our vision will fundamentally transform Kenya.
"As a build-up towards the official unveiling, we have lined up a series of public engagements and activities to be hosted by our constituent political parties and partners in various parts of the country," Moi stated.
He also noted that OKA is open to honest engagements with other political formations which share their ideology, adding that the process will involve structured and open negotiations on key issues.
On his part, Kalonzo explained that OKA will involve the organs of the consistent parties in negotiations with other parties that have expressed interest in teaming up with them ahead of the August 9 polls.
He further explained the absence of businessman Jimmy Wanjigi from the press, stating that the tycoon was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who supported OKA's ideologies.
OKA co-principals are keen on setting up the coalition to counter the influence of Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Ruto and Raila have been positioned as the top two leading aspirants to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in what was first termed as a horse race. OKA, which lost Amani National Party Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford-Kenya counterpart, Moses Wetangula, to Ruto, are of the thought that the race will be open and hard to call.
Analysts opine that runoff may be witnessed in the August 9 General Election if OKA resort to fielding their own candidate. Martha Karua, in a past media address, reiterated that the coalition will surprise the nation in the coming weeks.
Kalonzo Musyoka is reportedly leading the odds in being selected as the coalition's flagbearer.
