A Jubilee insider has spilled the beans about President Uhuru Kenyatta's choice of running mate for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a Mt Kenya meeting on Saturday, February 5, Gatanga Member of Parliament Nduati Ngugi, stated that the Head of State had thrown his weight behind Peter Kenneth as Odinga's running mate.

He added that after holding conversations with the President, it was agreed upon that Kenyatta ought to try to woo in members of the One Kenya Alliance principals and former Jubilee politicians in order to join the Azimio la Umoja movement.

"Yesterday (Friday) we spoke with the President and we agreed for him to talk to members of ODM, OKA and former Jubilee politicians who left in order to work together as one," Nduati Ngugi stated.

Over 50 Mt Kenya elders had attended the event to endorse Kenneth as Mount Kenya's spokesman as well as Raila's running mate, expressing confidence in his track record.

The former Gatanga legislator, during his acceptance speech, noted that he was ready to serve Kenyans should he be given the mantle to become Raila's Deputy.

"We have supported the handshake of Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta and that's the initiative we will be supporting as we head to the 2022 General Election," he noted.

Raila, in the recent past, has tried to shake off the 'State Project' tag that his rivals have branded him. Further, politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition have also faulted the Former Prime Minister for driving a wedge between Kenyatta and his Deputy.

In his defence, Raila pointed out that he only sought Uhuru's vote and not his endorsement as the next project.

As the race to the next General Election draws near, seasoned politicians like Peter Kenneth, NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua, as well Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have been touted as the favourite candidates to become Raila's second in command.
