Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his fierce attacks on his Deputy William Ruto.

While addressing a Kenya Kwanza rally in Bungoma County on Wednesday, February 9, Murkomen stated that Kenyatta was always a worried man and had only become bold recently, citing an incident at State House Nairobi after the 2017 General Election.

Murkomen revealed that he witnessed the Head of State shaking after former Chief Justice David Maraga nullified the victory of Jubilee in 2017.

He claimed that the president was so much disturbed about his re-election, which had been thrown into a spin after the Supreme Court's landmark decision.

“I have seen the president breathing fury lately. Let me tell you a secret. In 2017 after Maraga nullified our win, I was personally there with the president and he was shaking.

“It is Ruto who was calming him down telling him that everything would be okay. Now he has gone to befriend someone (Raila) who disturbed him so much. He is even telling us that he is a nice person,” he stated.

Ruto, who was in the company of Murkomen was filmed bursting into laughter even as the crowd cheered the senator.

Additionally, Murkomen alleged that Kenyatta was angry because of the growing numbers of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. The senator who is serving his second term after winning his first election in 2013, added that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was calmer than him.

“I have been the majority leader of Uhuru in the senate but I am even surprised that he is so angry more than Raila. He looks like someone who is seeking another term,” Murkomen wondered.

He insisted that Ruto was forced to embark on the campaign trail after his powers were chopped and given to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, leaving the DP's office irrelevant.

“When you signed the executive order of 2019, what powers did you give to Ruto? Show us what you have done in your second term that was not started in the first term,” the senator stated.

While attending the official launch of the Universal Health Care (UHC) in Mombasa County on February 7,the President described his deputy as a ghost worker stating that Ruto was spending most of his term politicking while drawing a salary, which is taxpayers' money.

"Those who are peddling lies can't change our achievements. Let us remain focused. If there are things that are not right, that is why you are here to help us.

"We have seen those who are just saying they did this and at the same time claiming that the government has done nothing. Work is not done on top of cars, it is done in offices and hospitals. The nurse does not peddle lies but goes towards theatres. In this Kenya, we see a lot," Kenyatta expressed.
