Ukweli Party, a political outfit that has been under the chairmanship of political activist Boniface Mwangi has unveiled his replacement.
In a notice in local dailies on Monday, February 14, the party unveiled a new roster of leaders to fill five position including Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and Organising Secretary.
Mwangi, who has been serving as the Ukweli Party Chairperson since 2017, was replaced by Nduko O'Matigere, a civil rights heavyweight.
A quick look into his profile reveals that the new chairman has amassed an impressive 20 years of civil society work where he served under various roles in different Non-Governmental Organisations.
He specialises in programmes development and management which includes strategic citizen engagement and advocacy, capacity development for activists and their organisations, partnerships, impact assessment and research.
"In his practice, he gives special focus on finding and experimenting with creative ideas and ways to inspire millions of ordinary people to take charge of their lives through imaginative exercise of voice and applying their numbers and power to massively cause shifts in social, economic and political power arrangements to their benefit, and in ways that secure their self-worth, dignity and quality of life," reads his profile on the party's site.
He began his social work in 1998 when he secured employment at the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) where he provided support services and assistance to Program Officers among others.
He later moved to other organisations, seven in number, and currently serves as the Africa Regional Programme Coordinator at PEN International.
Prior to his appointment, Nduko served as the Secretary General of the party which prides itself in social democratic and political work.
Other appointments in the party include John Mulei Munyalo who takes over as Deputy Chairperson from Scheaffer Okore and Amisa Rashid Ahmed who is the new Secretary General.
John Mulingwa Nzau will serve as the Deputy Secretary General, while James Kibaki Wambugu will serve as the Organising Secretary.
In August 2021, Mwangi resigned from active politics to concentrate on other ventures and spend time with his family.
