Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Charles Keter, has differed with allies of Deputy President William Ruto over their remarks on President Uhuru Kenyatta's Cabinet meetings.

While appearing on Citizen TV on Tuesday, February 15, Keter defended Uhuru against allegations that he had not convened a Cabinet meeting during the final years of the Jubilee administration.

Keter stated that there had been Cabinet meetings until the last moments when he resigned from his position to join the Kericho gubernatorial race.

The former CS was responding to a question by the show host who asked him to confirm whether the allegations were true. Additionally, he stated that there was no friction in the Cabinet despite the differences between the President and his deputy.

“We have had Cabinet meetings until when I left on Tuesday, February 8 and they have been going on,” he stated.

Previously while on the campaign trail, allies of the DP led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, claimed that the Head of State had not held Cabinet meetings during his second term.

This was echoed by Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi, during a rally on February 13 in Baringo County, where he alleged that Uhuru had not held any Cabinet meeting in the last year.

“There has not been a Cabinet meeting for over a year as the government continues to operate on decrees and Executive Orders. We want a government that can be believed in, that inspires confidence in local and foreign investors,” Mudavadi stated.

Additionally, Keter stated that he will always respect the President while joining Kenya Kwanza alliance rallies. He stated that Uhuru was a personal friend and his boss and, therefore, he would not engage in campaigns that attack the Head of State.

He added that he would change the nature of politics of Kenya Kwanza, stating that there were better ways of expressing political views during the rallies.

“I am soon going to change the campaign bandwagon of Kenya Kwanza when I soon start rolling out my campaign. I believe that there are so many ways of passing messages.

“Having worked with the President and the Deputy President for 20 years, there must be that respect at all times. I have never been a controversial figure," he stated.
