Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga visited Murang’a Women Representative, Sabina Chege, who is recuperating at the Nairobi Hospital.
Odinga was accompanied by a section of leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the Jubilee Party, as seen in the photos shared by Chege on Tuesday night, February 22.
The ailing lawmaker thanked Raila and his entourage for stopping by and wishing her well. She, however, did not disclose her diagnosis.
MPs who accompanied Raila included Kanini Kega (Kieni), Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Mishi Mboko (Likoni) and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay county).
Other leaders included Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina. The leaders wished Chege a quick recovery as she took a break from the campaign trail.
"Wishing my friend and sister Hon. Sabina Wanjiru wa Chege a quick recovery," Wanga stated.
Chege failed to appear before the electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday, February 22.
Her lawyer and Rarieda Member of Parliament, Otiende Amollo told IEBC that his client was unwell.
According to the lawyer, Ms Chege was admitted on February 16, after she checked herself in the hospital. Amollo added that the doctors ruled against discharging her. The MP further presented a letter from Chege's doctor to substantiate his sentiments.
"The doctor addressed this letter at our request to confirm that the respondent is indisposed. She was admitted and is currently undergoing treatment.
"In those circumstances, the respondent was not able to be with us. We did not get that letter to be addressed any earlier because being indisposed is not predictable as to when she would be in a position to be discharged or to attend," he stated.
He further told the commission to reschedule the meeting since it was not clear when Ms Chege will be discharged.
The electoral commission's Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee had summoned Chege to explain utterances she had made during a rally in Vihiga last week.
Chege was accused of making remarks bordering on electoral malpractices.
