Two police officers are nursing serious injuries after they were shot by robbers who stormed Kimilili town,  Bungoma County, on Tuesday afternoon, March 1.

A police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke indicated that the injured officers were escorting the cash in the bank vehicle. Ksh25 million was stolen during the incident.

One officer was shot on both legs while the other was shot on the right knee.

"Be informed that today at around 1330 hours at Ushirika bank Kimilili branch armed robbers attacked Cipu Officers from Bungoma South Sub County, who were escorting cash in the Ushirika Bank vehicle.

"The Ushirika Bank manager was shot on the left side of the stomach and the bullet still lodged in," read the statement in part.

The victims have since been rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret, for further treatment.

The incident comes barely a month after five armed bank robbers staged a daring heist inside the popular Westside Mall in Nakuru County.

The robbers made away with Ksh2.3 million in what was described as a perfectly executed crime.

The then thugs were armed guns, hammer, knives and a machete and first posed as clients to get into the banking hall before drawing their weapons.

Police, at the time, suspected that the heist was an inside job - claiming that a number of bank employees aided in the robbery.

In November 2021, however, the police acted swiftly and foiled a bank robbery after laying a siege by firing pistols and rifles at the gunmen.

The officers jumped into the bank through windows during the incident in a popular bank in Kisumu.
