Mark Bus Termini

While staying in Nairobi and traversing the Central Business District (CBD), it is important to note the various bus termini. This is where commuters disembark from Public Service Vehicles, commonly known as matatus. Know their names and the routes the matatus ply. Why is this important? Matatus will drop and pick you from town as long as you know the correct bus stage.

Ask the touts

While a majority of matatu conductors have a rotten reputation, not all of them have bad intentions. Should you need help on how to find your way around the city, turn to them. However, do it with caution because you have no idea of whom you are talking to.

Turn to the police

Ask for help and direction from police officers that are always patrolling the streets. These are very trusted members of the society that can guide you better for free. It is easy to spot a police officer in the city since many are unformed.

What about the watchman?

Most of the guards in the city have a better understanding of routes and major offices. Should you get lost, look around and engage the next watchman manning the premises near you. Some have uniforms from reputable firms, while for others, you will identify them with the baton they carry, or the rungu.

Go for the landmarks

The easiest way is to know the landmarks within the city. These include major roads, unique buildings, offices, etc. For example, you can't be in Nairobi, and you do not know the location of KICC, Times Towers, Parliament, the National Archives, and KCB - commonly known as Commercial. Other major establishments include the Ambassadeur Hotel, Hilton.

Google Maps

Why get lost when you have a smartphone? Technology has made life easier. You can now trace your location and find direction from the palm of your hand as long as you have data bundles.
