The One Kenya Alliance (OKA) has taken a break from local politics amid pressure to conclude negotiations on their coalition agreement that was postponed on Wednesday last week.

On Sunday, March 6, OKA Principals, comprising of Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his KANU counterpart Gideon Moi met the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the State House in Kampala.

According to Kalonzo, the major discussion touched on plans to foster peace in South Sudan by organizing a retreat for President Salva Kiir and his archrival - First Vice President Dr Riek Machar.

Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed Kalonzo and Gideon aboard a private plane, presumably en route to Kampala after which they had a meeting with Museveni and his delegation.

"Together with OKA's Gideon Moi, I met with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for lengthy and deep deliberations. Chief among the talks was the planned peace retreat with S. Sudan President Salva Kiir and First VP Dr Riek Machar," Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo is Kenya's Special Envoy to South Sudan and has been active in coordinating peace efforts in the troubled nation.

Recently, the Wiper party leader held a meeting with the former Ugandan Special Envoy to South Sudan Ambassador Betty Bigombe and the British High Commissioner to Uganda Kate Airey at the Serena Hotel in  Uganda's capital, Kampala, to find a consensus that will boost the peace of the East African neighboring countries.

However, Gideon's presence in the trip suggested the Museveni meeting may have extended to other matters.

The Baringo Senator's father, the late President Daniel Arap Moi, enjoyed a cordial friendship with Museveni that extended to their families.

Kenya and Uganda have deep and friendly diplomatic relations that at times extend to local politics. The Ugandan President, however, has vowed not to interfere with the Kenyan General Election after questions arose on his closeness to Deputy President William Ruto.

In Ruto's previous engagements with the Ugandan head of state, they toured Wakiso District, Uganda in July 2021, to take part and oversee the project  aimed at manufacturing vaccines in Uganda

Although the DP had previously campaigned for Museveni and his National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party, during his 2016 and 2021 Ugandan presidential elections, Museveni maintained to not taking any sides during the upcoming Kenyan Presidential Elections.

"The elections in Kenya or any other country is a matter of the people of that country. Those people are the ones who are competent in deciding what to do. Supporting Ruto, we'll never do anything like that. We shall never take sides," he stated.

Museveni stated that any of such support could cause some forms of interference between the two countries and therefore shake their bilateral relations.
