The Standard Media Group on Sunday, March 6, announced that it is experiencing interruption of its broadcasting services affecting its TV stations.

After airing the Sunday prime time news dubbed Checkpoint, the media giant stated that the interruptions will occur at irregular intervals and were likely to affect the smooth transmission of programs on KTN Home and other sister stations.

A highly placed source intimated to Kenyans.co.ke that the situation will continue and the stations will be going on and off as the technical team troubleshoots to find a permanent solution for the problem.

"Dear viewers, we are experiencing a technical challenge that is affecting the smooth transmission of programs on our TV stations- KTN News, KTN Home, KTN Farmers TV and BTV intermittently," read part of the statement.

KTN is currently hosted on Signet and Pan-Africa Network Group (PANG), while the likes of NTV, Citizen TV, Inooro TV, are hosted on Africal Digital Network (ADN), and Signet signals.

PANG offers Digital Terrestrial Television platform across the country- consisting 23 sites which covers over 75 percent of the population, according to the PANG official site. The distributor has been operational since October 2011.

Signet, on the other hand is a subsidiary of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and is responsible for broadcasting and distributing the DTT signals on digital terrestrial transmission system.

It was first launched by former President Mwai Kibaki in December 2009. ADN is also another means of broadcasting and distributing the stations' signals.

This is not the first time the Mombasa road-based media house has been hit by signal hitch affecting its transmission. In September 2021, the station announced that a satellite sun outage would affect its transmission for a one week period.

A month prior, Citizen TV, NTV and Inooro TV stations had gone off air abruptly during prime time bulletins which was caused by a technical hitch, according to a manager at the Royal Media Services (RMS).

"It was just a technical failure. We share some facilities at Limuru. There is a transmitting station in Limuru. That might affect because it comes from ADN TV."

"We share some satellite facilities but it was restored," stated the source.
