Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria has once again reiterated that his policies differ from those of the Azimio la Umoja movement led by former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, March 7, Kuria argued that Azimio la Umoja had ulterior motives and could not fathom the reason behind its formation.

Kuria insisted that he cannot work with Azimio la Umoja despite being friends with Raila, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.

His main point of contention was that the coalition was enabling a retiring president to remain in the corridors of power on claims that he was young and thus too early for him to exit politics.

"I do not understand Azimio. All I hear people say is that this one (President Uhuru Kenyatta) is too young to retire, while others are saying they want the coalition so that they bar a certain individual (Deputy President William Ruto) from becoming President," he remarked.

Kuria added that he does not support the newly formed political alliance as their agenda is unclear and its policies do not address issues affecting the common citizen.

"Surely, what is Azimio? I do not understand their manifesto, nor the direction they are taking. Like I have said before, all I want is clarity and openness, which I do not find in it.

"All I want to understand is how your policies will benefit the ordinary Kenyan because I have the interests of the people at heart," he argued.

When asked about the Ksh6,000 monthly stipend to be given to every household as promised by Raila, Kuria responded by stating that it was not sound to offer Kenyans goodwill on one hand then say that the President was too young to retire on the other.

He further defended DP Ruto's 12-day visit to the United Kingdom and the United States of America (USA), noting that the tour was in line with any presidential aspirant's campaign strategies. The MP opined that Ruto was showcasing his manifesto to the foreign countries.

"It was his right to travel and explain to the countries his international policies. Kenya cannot be an island. Raila Odinga is also posed to address a delegation at Chatham House and I don't think they will be in competition to embarrass one another," he reiterated.

Speaking on his Mount Kenya Unity forum, the Kiambu County gubernatorial aspirant affirmed that the Union was still alive despite Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua joining the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

He explained that despite joining rival political sides, the forum still represents the interests of the people from the Mount Kenya region in Azimio and Kenya Kwanza.

Mount Kenya Unity forum comprised of Karua's Narc-Kenya, Kuria's Chama Cha Kazi and former Cabinet Secretary, Mwangi Kiunjuri's The Service Party of Kenya (TSP).
