One Kenya Alliance (OKA) has cancelled the signing ceremony of their coalition agreement that was scheduled for Wednesday morning, March 2.

Speaking during a joint press conference, OKA principals noted that the event had to be postponed after fresh demands were lodged by the Narc Kenya party led by Martha Karua.

The announcement was made in presence of Karua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU leader Gideon Moi, and UDM's Cyrus Jirongo. They all affirmed the coalition's pact of working together in the August 9 General Election.

"We were to sign our coalition agreement today but we have postponed to polish certain legal issues. Nevertheless, we are committed to our unity. We shall be letting you know the time we shall sign the agreement," the OKA principals announced.

"We still are open to receive other parties that we are talking to into the OKA coalition and to building coalitions with other Kenyans," they added.

Karua, had requested OKA for seven more days to evaluate the agreement before making the decision.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, March 1, Narc Secretary-General Michael Orwa, stated the party had instructed its lawyers to seek clarity on existing grey areas, and then prepare and present a detailed brief to the National Executive Committee (NEC).

“In the last 36 hours, the party received the final text of the draft coalition agreement and related documents from the OKA technical team," Orwa stated.

The secretary general further remarked that after receiving the document, NEC will deliberate before considering it for approval.

“For instance, we have the coalition political parties and we need to understand the implication of signing such an agreement,” he stated.

He added, “We also need to find out if a coalition can join other political coalitions."

This comes just days after Kalonzo announced bid to join Azimio la Umoja affiliated with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. To consolidate his support ground, the former vice president went ahead to reveal the secret deal that was sealed in the National Super Alliance (NASA).

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the ODM leader was obliged to support his Presidential bid in 2022 regardless of whether NASA would win the 2017 General Election.

"I'm giving you copies and I will just read out a few paragraphs. And understand that this document, by its nature, was supposed to be a secret. However, I have explained to the parties the need to make things clear.

"As we begin the fresh rounds of the negotiation process leading to the August election, I have been compelled to release the above document in order to answer some of the criticism labelled against me, quote as being the indecisive kingmaker," Kalonzo stated.
