Usawa Kwa Wote party presidential candidate Mwangi Wa Iria, has issued a statement, after reports were widely circulated that he had joined the Azimio movement led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In his response published on his social media accounts on Saturday, March 12, Wa Iria maintained that he was still pursuing his presidential ambitions outlining that his determination is to get a direct endorsement from the Kenyan voters and not by any alternative means.

The Murang'a County Governor through his presidential secretariat talked about the party's exact position regarding its political ambitions for the upcoming general election clarifying that they had not dropped with any of their previous plans for the State House race.

"To our Loyal Aspirants, Members and Supporters, It is Usawa Kwa Wote hadi mwisho, " stated the Mwangi Wa Iria Presidential Secretariat.

The announcement came hours after the Azimio la Umoja National Delegates Convention took place at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC), which was immediately followed by a public rally at the Jacaranda grounds in Embakassi East Constituency.

During the event, at least thirty political parties joined Azimio la Umoja, with the biggest catch being Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, who had previously ruled out endorsing Odinga.

The statement by Wa Iria cleared the air on whether the Usawa Kwa Wote party was among the parties that had joined Azimio la Umoja.

The governor who is serving his second and final term insisting that his Usawa Kwa Party is not a member of any political coalition but a coalition of voters.

"Usawa Kwa Wote Party is not a member of any political coalition. Usawa Kwa Wote is a coalition of voters NOT political parties," stated Wa Iria.

He reiterated that his party has a focus on getting support directly from voters.

"The focus and determination is to get the mandate directly from voters during 9/8/22 General Elections. We shall have nominees in every electoral position in every electoral unit across Kenya. Our Presidential Candidate is H.E. Mwangi Wa Iria," clarified Wa Iria.

The position by Wa Iria sparked mixed reactions, with some Kenyans online urging him to make up his mind as time was running out.

"Big names can meet all they want but we want the no-name Mwangi Wa Iria the 5th," said @Jimnah_Jimnah

"Wishing you the best my Governor," @Samkata01.
