Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale has cleared the air regarding the Tujibebe Wakenya party leader, William Kabogo's latest political move.
In a TV interview on Monday, March 14, Duale, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, stated that despite the former Kiambu governor attending their rally at Thika Stadium on March 17, he was not part of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
The former Majority leader explained that Kenya Kwanza was officially made of three parties and one could not join their team by only attending their rally.
He stated that the alliance was formally made of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC), and Ford Kenya's Senator Moses Wetangula.
"UDA, ANC and Ford Kenya are the parties that form Kenya Kwanza. By gracing the rally to the best of my knowledge is not to say that you are part of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
"I can say that with certainty. I do not want the public to get me wrong on this. As of tonight, Kenya Kwanza is made of three parties who share the same ideology," he stated.
During the Thika rally on Saturday, March 12, Kabogo joined a section of Mt Kenya leaders in endorsing the candidature of Ruto after years of differences between the two leaders.
At some point, Kabogo blamed the DP for losing the Jubilee party ticket for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat to Ferdinand Waititu in 2017.
At the Thika rally, the former ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that he would take over as the Mt Kenya spokesperson and negotiate on behalf of the region ahead of the August 9 polls.
"Some people are saying that the community will be shown the way by President Kenyatta, that is not possible. Yesterday, I heard them say that there is no one who can speak because he (Uhuru) is there, I want to declare today that I will speak on behalf of the Kikuyu community," he stated.
Among the contentious issues that Kenya Kwanza has faced is the debate on the running mate position as Mt Kenya leaders and their ANC counterparts have clashed over Musalia Mudavadi's place in Ruto's camp.
In the interview, Duale acknowledged that there were interests from many quarters for the position, stating that they would create a formula that would be acceptable to everyone.
"Ours is a very democratic coalition. Our members are free to express their views. Whoever will become our candidate and running mate will be sorted in the next one month.
"All our members from our key regions will comfortably have a place in our coalition and in the next government. Everyone will have a piece in the next administration," he stated.
