Govt Cars Put on Auction for as Low as Ksh 10K, How to Bid

  • The Ministry of Interior headed by Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has announced a mass auction of government vehicles with some going for as low as Ksh10,000 each.

    In a notice seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, March 15, the Ministry listed 38 vehicles including Volkswagen Passats as well as Mercedes Benz for sale.

    The exercise is slated to take place on Friday April 8, 2022 starting from 10:00 a.m. at Industrial Area Remand Prison.

    The cheapest car on the listing is the Daihatsu Terios which has an estimated reserve price of Ksh10,000 while the most expensive is Isuzu Canter going for Ksh650,000.

    Other vehicles listed for auction are Landrovers which have an estimated reserve price of less than Ksh50,000, VW Passat which go for Ksh250,000 and Ksh310,000 as well as Subaru at Ksh560,000.

    A total of 22 cars have been listed for less than Ksh100,000 while only two have an estimated reserve price of over Ksh600,000.

    How to Apply

    Interested bidders are advised to obtain the documents from the Office of the President Harambee House with a non-refundable fee of Ksh1,000.

    They are also advised to view the motor vehicles at the Industrial Area Prison.

    They will be required to pay a refundable deposit of Kshs50,000 at the auction site, on the auction day and be issued with a bidding number.

    "The successful bidder must pay a deposit of 25% of the purchase price by the fall of the hammer. The purchased motor vehicle must be collected from the respective yard within 30 days from the auction day failure to which a storage fee will be charged at Kshs. 1,000 per day.

    "The unsuccessful bidders will be refunded their bid deposits immediately after the auction," read the statement in part.
