A common factor among news anchors in the Kenyan industry is the glamour, style and class that they exude as they go live on air.

Citizen TV's Lulu Hassan is no exception as she is renowned for her exemplary style of fashion while gracing the screen for the 7 pm prime time news.

Known for making fashion statements, Lulu has been a force to reckon with when it comes to her style of dressing, whether it's at a prestigious event or a social gathering.

With this market niche into the picture, a designer has curved her path by dressing the admirable onscreen anchor on numerous occasions.

Taking the fashion industry by storm, Yvonne Odhiambo is also renowned for dressing influential politicians with the likes of Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga and the Kenya Kwanza alliance team. She is the Chief Executive of the Afrostreet kollections- which represents the African print but with a Western touch.

"My shout-out goes to Yvonne Odhiambo. She is the head designer of her label; the Afro Street Kollections. Her label represents the African girl child but with a little bit of a western touch," Mama Ida Odinga recently praised her.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Odhiambo highlighted how she managed to craft the idea into a thriving business.

The designer began her business nine years ago with an aim of crafting shirts and clothing designs with a unique touch.

"I’m inspired by the different people and things that happen along the streets of Nairobi," she stated adding that her experience has been full of twists and turns but fruitful in the end.

Her clothing label focuses on both male and female attires, particularly for grand events such as traditional weddings (ruracio), and other social gatherings.

Breaking down the prices, she affirmed that they normally depend on the fabrics and designs that the users settle for with the shirts ranging from Ksh4,500 and dresses from Ksh6,500 onwards.

According to Odhiambo, some of her distinct fabrics are imported while others are sourced locally in order to come up with the most elegant design.

A spot check on her Instagram profile shows a list of influential personalities and politicians such as NTV host Amina Abdi Rabar, Sky News Anchor Kimberley Leonard, Lulu Hassan who have all donned her collections at mega events and shows.

Odhiambo hinted that she gets in touch with influential personalities through word of mouth, referrals, and mutual friends.

"(The journey) has been amazing, interesting, challenging and so far so good I can’t complain," she entailed.
