Renowned businessman and powerful Moi-era politician, Jackson Kiprotich Kibor - popularly known as Mzee Kibor - is dead.

Mzee Kibor's family confirmed his demise on the night of Wednesday, March 16, detailing that the businessman succumbed after a long illness.

The family explained that Kibor had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with doctors confirming that his two kidneys had failed.

Mzee Kibor's long-term illness dates back to 2020 after he was reported to have contracted Covid-19. The illness was so severe that the businessman always moved around with an oxygen cylinder in his vehicle while a similar one was always on standby at his home.

Mzee Kibor, christened as the chairman of the Men's Conference that takes place on February 14 every year, will be remembered for his philanthropic nature as well as controversial relationships that made headlines from time to time.

Reports indicate that he had sired over 20 children with four wives. Despite amassing immense wealth, Mzee Kibor was engaged in protracted court battles with his children over the control of his estate.

The businessman moved to court in a bid to evict his sons from 1,240 acres of land that he had initially gifted them.

His prayers were granted by the High Court sitting in Eldoret. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision, ruling that the sons' appeal against the eviction had reasonable grounds.

The application had been filed by Elkanah Kipleting, Evans Kipkosgei, and Erick Kipchumba.

Every year, Mzee Kibor's name would be famed during Valentine's season whereby he was granted the honour of chairing the Men's conference - which started out as an imaginary event.

However, in 2019, he chaired a men's gathering that had been organised during Valentines day.
