Students at St Benedict Secondary School Kituli in Machakos were forced to flee from the learning institution after bees attacked the examination centre.
The learners, who were to sit for the Kiswahili Paper on Thursday morning, March 17, were attacked by a swarm of bees before the exam started.
The bees invaded three classrooms that were being used by candidates who are sitting for their 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Education officers and invigilators transferred the students to nearby learning institutions so that they can continue with their exams.
The Kathiani education officer, Veronicah Kalungu, confirmed the incident, noting that no student was injured.
“The students were awaiting to sit for Kiswahili Lugha and Insha papers when the bees attacked them and overwhelmingly camped in the classrooms,” Kalungu stated.
After the students left, police officers remained behind to help fumigate the zone.
Elsewhere, Cabinet Secretary for Education, George Magoha, was busy monitoring the 2021 KCPE Kiswahili Insha paper at Sir Newton High School in Eastleigh, Nairobi County.
He briefly addressed the media and noted that mobile phones were a big impediment to the national exams. He pointed out that examination officials impounded dozens of cell phones from candidates on the third day of the tests.
CS Magoha assured the public that the KCSE exam has not leaked despite numerous people attempting to taint the examination process.
“Don’t say exams have leaked unless you have evidence, you are frightening children,” Magoha told the press.
"Today, we have found two students with mobile phones in school. I would like to warn any teacher who will open the papers before the scheduled time. Just know that we will come for you."
