A video that captured an unidentified lady being bundled in a speeding car along Thika Superhighway has gone viral and caused an uproar with Kenyans calling on the police to take action.

The video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, and which went viral on Sunday, March 20, shows a car speeding off after picking a woman along the busy highway. The lady is captured screaming as the door of the vehicle swings open, seemingly showing distress and calling for help.

The video sparked anger among Kenyans who called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take action and expeditiously probe the matter.

Police spokesperson Bruno Shioso confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the incident was not a kidnapping situation as speculated by most Kenyans online. He noted that a disagreement had ensued between a boyfriend and girlfriend after an evening out.

The unidentified lady, student at one of the universities along the highway, differed with the boyfriend who sought the lady to accompany him for the evening.

He added that the video captured the lady trying to resist her boyfriend's demands, before speeding off along the Thika Superhighway.

"Yes, it happened. But not a kidnapping situation as thought from the clip. It was a boyfriend-girlfriend situation disagreement after a day out. She's a student at KU and had a scuffle with her boyfriend who wanted her to accompany him for the evening."

"The clip captured her resisting as he tried to drive off," Shioso stated.

The police spokesperson further intimated that the pair had decided to put their differences aside and reconcile. He, however, confirmed that appropriate action would be taken over the reckless act posed by the boyfriend.

"They have been with the police today having reconciled. But the act was reckless and put her and other road users in danger. Police will determine appropriate action thereafter."

The incident comes on the backdrop of an ongoing national conversation regarding a number of insecurity cases involving motorists and other road users. This is after another video had emerged of a diplomat who was assaulted by boda boda riders along Forest Road.

The incident drew condemnation with President Uhuru Kenyatta announcing a countrywide crackdown on rogue boda boda operators. The operation, which was met with resistance especially from politicians was later called off.
