CCTV footage has emerged showing Nairobi residents being mugged in broad daylight by rowdy youths who had attended a political rally.

In a video clip seen by Kenyans.co.ke , the charged youths were captured dawning branded t-shirts attacking by-standers outside busy business premises.

The three men and two women were standing outside one of the shops, marveling as the huge procession made its way past the container shops on the side of the road.

As the woman opened her shop, a section of the youth started charging towards her and the bystanders. She walked into the shop and was followed by one of the men who attempted to lock the door.

One of the men in a green baseball hat, on noticing the imminent danger, managed to take off in good time as the mob forced the door of the shop opened. The bystander who was still on the footpath was accosted by five youth.

Jinxed, he attempted to seek refuge in the very shop that was under attack. However, he was pulled out of the stall and tossed on the ground. Outnumbered, the youth robbed him making away with items of unknown value.

A second woman who walked out of the shop with her hands up in the air, an acknowledgment of total surrender, was not spared either.

Her handbag was snatched by one of the assailants and as if that was not enough, she was physically assaulted, receiving a heavy blow to the face, causing her to retreat to the ransacked store.

The CCTV footage drew mixed reactions from a section of Kenyans with some admitting to having gone through the same ordeal.

"When you see a crowd coming from a rally, wait for them to pass. Chances are that there are thieves amongst them," a Kenyan noted.

Others opined that business owners should be cautious and close their shops temporarily during rally processions. For motorists, it is advisable to ensure that doors and windows remain shut.
